Sexually
Transmitted Diseases
LasVegas STD Testing - STDs
are diseases that are spread by having sex with
someone who has an STD. You can get a sexually
transmitted disease from sexual activity that
involves the mouth, anus, vagina, or penis.
According to the American Social Health Organization,
approximately 18.9 million new cases of STDs,
not including HIV, occur each year in the U.S.
More than half of all people will be infected
with an STD in their lifetime.
STDs are serious illnesses that require treatment.
Some STDs, like AIDS, cannot be cured and are
deadly.
What Are the Symptoms
of STDs?
Frequently, there are no symptoms.
If symptoms are present, they may include one
or more of the following:
Bumps, sores or warts near the mouth, anus,
penis or vagina.
Swelling or redness near the penis or vagina.
Skin rash.
Painful urination.
Weight loss, loose stools, night sweats.
Aches, pains, fever, and chills.
Yellowing of the skin (jaundice).
Discharge from the penis or vagina
Bleeding from the vagina other than during
a monthly period.
Vaginal odor.
Painful sex.
Severe itching near the penis or vagina.
Because most STDs can be symptom free, do not
assume that you or your partner are not infected
just because you do not have any symptoms. STDs
can be present for years before they become
symptomatic, so the only way to know for sure
if you or your partner has an STD is to get
tested.
Test Offered
HIV
HIV-1/HIV-2(Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1
& 2) Antibody Screen with Western Blot Confirmation
This test detects the antibodies that are produced
by the body’s immune system in response to HIV.
This is the most common HIV test and is recommended
for people whose potential exposure window is longer
than 3 months ago.
Syphilis
RPR
(Rapid Plasma Reagin) For Syphilis
The RPR test is the most common syphilis test performed
and is done so with a blood specimen. If the RPR
test comes back positive a confirmatory test (fluorescent
treponemal antibody absorption or FTA-ABS test)
will be performed at no additional charge.
Chlamydia
Chlamydia Urine Test
This test is performed with a urine specimen
NOT a swab. The test uses nucleic acid amplification
to detect the presence of the bacterium. The nucleic
acid amplification test has been proven to be more
accurate than the swab test.
Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea Urine Test
This test is performed with a urine specimen
NOT a swab. The test uses nucleic acid amplification
to detect the presence of the bacterium. The nucleic
acid amplification test has been proven to be more
accurate than the swab test.
Hepatitis
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Test
This is the most frequently and easily
performed test for hepatitis B and is the first
test to show abnormal results. HBsAg generally indicates
active hepatitis B virus infection.
Hepatitis B Surface Antibody
Test
This antibody appears approximately 4 weeks after
the disappearance of the surface antigen and signifies
the end of the acute infection phase. HBsAb also
signifies immunity to subsequent infections.
Hepatitis C Core Antibody
Test
This antibody appears approximately 1 month after
infection with HBsAg and declines over several years.
HBcAb is also present in people with chronic hepatitis.
CBC
Complete Blood Count (CBC) With Differential Test
The
CBC and differential are a series of tests of the
blood that provides a tremendous amount of information
about the body's immune system. A CBC routinely
includes RBC, WBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet
count among others.
Both
a urinalysis and a complete blood count provides
an excellent indication of a person’s overall health.
It is very rare that something can be going on in
the body and it does not show up in the blood or
the urine.
Urinalysis
Urinalysis
Testing
Total
Urinary Analysis (UA) involves multiple routine
tests on a urine specimen. A UA will routinely include
color, appearance, and odor; pH; and presence of
proteins, glucose, ketones, and blood. It is also
examined microscopically for RBCs, WBCs, casts,
crystals, and bacteria.
